China Public Holidays 2027: Official Dates for Visitors and Importers (Spring Festival, Golden Week)
If you are planning a trip to China or placing orders with Chinese factories for 2027, the public holidays decide when trains sell out, when prices jump and when factories stop. China has seven public holidays with 13 legal days off. On 5 November 2026 the State Council General Office published the official 2027 timetable of days off and make-up working days: 国务院办公厅关于2027年部分节假日安排的通知 (document number 国办发明电〔2026〕10号). The table below follows that notice.
2027 holiday dates at a glance (official)
| Holiday | Legal days off | Official days off (2027) | Make-up working days |
|---|---|---|---|
| New Year's Day (元旦) | 1 | Fri 1 Jan – Sun 3 Jan (3 days) | None |
| Spring Festival / Chinese New Year (春节) | 4 (New Year's Eve to the 3rd day) | Fri 5 Feb (Eve) – Sat 13 Feb (9 days) | Sun 31 Jan and Sun 14 Feb |
| Qingming (清明节, Tomb-Sweeping Day) | 1 | Sat 3 Apr – Mon 5 Apr (3 days) | None |

| National Day (国庆节, Golden Week) | 3 (1–3 October) | Fri 1 Oct – Thu 7 Oct (7 days) | Sun 26 Sep and Sat 9 Oct |
The legal day counts come from the State Council's 2024 amendment to the National Holidays regulation, in force since 1 January 2025 (Spring Festival covers New Year's Eve plus the first three days; Labour Day covers 1 and 2 May). The lunar festival dates are fixed by the Chinese calendar. The official days off and make-up working days above are from the 5 November 2026 notice, not estimates.
What "make-up working days" mean
To give people longer breaks, China moves some working days onto weekends (调休, tiáoxiū). Before or after a long holiday, offices, banks, government departments and factories may work a Saturday or Sunday. For 2027 that means working on 31 January, 14 February, 8 May, 26 September and 9 October. For visitors, this means:
- a "weekend" meeting may be perfectly normal on a make-up working day;
- banks and government offices are closed on the holiday days and open on the make-up days;
- trains, flights and hotels are busiest on the first and last day of each break.
Spring Festival 2027: the one that matters most
Chinese New Year falls on Saturday 6 February 2027. The official holiday runs nine days from Friday 5 February to Saturday 13 February, with make-up work on Sunday 31 January and Sunday 14 February. The travel rush (春运, chūnyùn) runs for about 40 days around it, and many factories close for two to four weeks while workers travel home, longer than the official break. If you import from China:
- place orders that must ship before the holiday by early December 2026, as many suppliers fill their pre-holiday capacity by then;
- expect slower replies and price quotes from late January;
- production usually restarts gradually after the Lantern Festival (Sat 20 February 2027);
- plan any factory visits for March onwards, or before mid-January.

Golden Week and other busy times
The National Day Golden Week from 1 to 7 October 2027 and the Labour Day break from 1 to 5 May are the peak domestic travel weeks. Famous sights such as the Great Wall and the Forbidden City sell out their timed tickets, and train tickets go fast as soon as they open, 15 days ahead. If your dates are flexible, travel the week before or after.
Dragon Boat (9 June) and Mid-Autumn (15 September) fall on Wednesdays in 2027, so each is a single midweek day off with no make-up working day.
Planning a trip in early 2027?
China's 30-day visa-free entry for most visa-free countries currently runs until 31 December 2026. The holiday notice does not change visa rules. See whether the exemption will be extended into 2027, and set up Alipay or WeChat Pay before you fly.
